Karin Neuvirth

I paint almost exclusively with a palette knife using acrylic to create textural, impressionistic works that speak to my spontaneous nature. I begin all of my paintings with an abstract, colorful under-painting which will inform the finished work. Once this first phase is complete, I will add several more layers and the subject will slowly emerge.

Karin was born in Minnesota where she studied art at Augsburg University in Minneapolis. While there she exhibited at several juried fine arts festivals. In Rochester, Minnesota she exhibited at a small cooperative gallery, where she served on the board of directors. Karin participated in two public art projects, her work was featured in the ‘Rochester’ magazine, and her paintings were purchased by the Olmsted Community Hospital. Since relocating to Durham in 2011, Karin has exhibited at juried shows and art festivals, and teaches classes on palette knife painting in her Durham studio. Karin posts her small daily work paintings on a website she created.

Karin is a member of the Durham Arts Guild  and shows her work regularly in the Sun Trust Gallery which is programmed by the guild. She participates in both the spring and fall Art walk in downtown Durham which is organized by the Durham Arts Council .
